"Marvelous job! Thanks to your hard work, the checklist is complete."
— Emily praising The Biggest Adventure Club, Sandy Versus the Storm

Emily is an emerald tender engine who lives and works on the Island of Sodor and is the North Western Railway's number 12 engine. She is the railway's official safety engine and formerly Sir Topham Hatt's private engine.

Personality

Emily loves to keep the Island of Sodor safe and on track. If an engine needs advice or a helping wheel, Emily is the engine for the job. Emily originally acted as Sir Topham Hatt's private engine, however, Emily is far more confident and level-headed than the railway controller, though she does listen to him despite his dramatic speeches.

As of Season 3, Emily is now Sodor's fulltime safety engine.

Technical Details

Basis

Emily is based on a Great Northern Railway Stirling Single 4-2-2.

Livery

    • Her rivets, and the yellow lining on the back of her tender she gained in the twenty-third series have been removed.

    • Her handrails on her boiler and smokebox were removed.
    • Her smokebox frames are now green.
    • Her lips have a more cartoonish lipstick shape.

  • In the original series, Emily was a part of the original and reformed Steam Team, but is not a main character in All Engines Go. Currently, she is a recurring character who only appears every now and then and does not appear or even speak as much as other secondary characters like Gordon, James, or even Bulstrode. Additionally, she did not have any speaking roles until the second half of the first season.
  • Unlike most of the other tender engines, Emily's cab is still open.
