- "What was that noise? It sounded like music."
"Oh yeah! It did! We've found music everywhere today."
"Except at the concert stage." - — Percy, Thomas and Nia
Music Is Everywhere is the thirteenth episode of the first season.
Plot[]
One day, Nia is pulling Annie and Clarabel along the line, humming a little tune. Just then, Thomas pulls up to them, and asks Nia why she is in such a good mood. Nia explains that there is going to be a concert in Vicarstown that day, and Annie and Clarabel add that they are carrying the musicians and the music lovers. Nia tells Thomas that he needs to come and see the concert, and Thomas agrees, as the race along the line. On the way, Nia points out that their wheels clanking on the rails sounds like a drum beat, and how she loves all the instruments. A little further on, Thomas and Nia have to stop at the Level Crossing for James to pass by. Thomas points out that the crossing bells sound musical, and Nia says that music could be everywhere, even in something like wind blowing through pipes.
At last, the two engines arrive at Vicarstown, and see the stage that the concert will be held in. When they pull into the station, Sir Topham Hatt is pacing worriedly on the platform. Thomas asks him what is wrong, and Sir Topham Hatt explains that Gordon has not arrived with the instruments yet, saying that Gordon is never late. Declaring that "the show must go on," Nia and Thomas promise to find Gordon and get the instruments to Vicarstown in time. They investigate the Maintenance Yard, but Gordon is not there. Carly and Sandy tell the two engines that Gordon was there earlier to drop off some wavy metal sheets and that he was off to the Mail Depot. Thomas and Nia set off to the next stop, with Carly and Sandy tagging along. Once at the depot, Carly accidentally makes some music with her hook against the mail boxes. Percy is there and tells them he passed Gordon on Quickdraw Bridge on his way to the depot, so all five friends decide to head there. Soon, they all arrive at Quickdraw Bridge and discover Gordon with the instruments stuck on the other side.
The bridge lever is faulty and Gordon cannot lower the bridge. Carly hooks onto it and with all five of them tugging hard, they manage to pull down the bridge so that Gordon can puff across it and make his way to Vicarstown. But as he crosses the bridge, Nia notices that Gordon has accidentally dropped a tuba from his car and rushes to pick it up. Without Nia, Thomas and the others cannot hold the bridge down and it raises up once more, trapping Nia on the other side. With Nia now stuck, she will not be able to see the concert and is very upset about it. To cheer their friend up, Thomas, Percy, Carly, and Sandy all decide to bring their own concert to Nia using the wavy metal sheets, the mail boxes, Percy's lucky bell, and the pipes all from earlier. They do their performance and Nia enjoys it so much that she rocks and rolls, accidentally hitting the switch far enough to lower Quickdraw Bridge. Once on the other side again, Thomas apologizes to Nia for her missing the concert, but Nia says that it was probably nothing compared to their concert. And so, all of them continue to have a blast making music together.
