Percival[1], or Percy for short, is a small green saddle tank engine who lives and works on the Island of Sodor and is the North Western Railway's number 6 engine. Percy normally pulls the mail train, which is his favorite job, and works alongside his friends.

Biography

Percy is a tank engine that lives on Sodor with Thomas and his friends. His best friends are Thomas, Diesel, Nia, Kana, Carly, Sandy and Bruno.

Personality

Percy is Thomas' best friend and quite a jokester. He has a lot of hidden courage in him, most of which he isn't aware of. Percy also likes to ring his lucky bell to bring good luck to himself, or his friends in a bad situation.

Technical Details

Basis

Percy is a freelance design of 0-4-0ST tank engine. In the original series, he is said to be of Avonside origin.

Livery

Percy is painted in apple green with red and yellow lining. His number 6 is painted on the sides of his cab in yellow with red lining and the lining around his cab windows is yellow.

In the second season episode, Thomas for a Day, Percy was accidently splashed with blue paint and pretended to be Thomas.

In the fourth season episodes, Chaos at Cronk's Crossing, The Big Do-Over, Did I Miss It? and No More Surprises, Percy has yellow paint and black stripes painted on him.

  • Since his last appearance in Thomas & Friends, Percy has gained notable changes in his design:
    • He lost his cab doors.
    • His running board is now red.
    • His cylinders were removed.
    • His boiler and saddle tank are notably smaller.
    • He lost a boiler band.
    • The handrails on his saddle tank and cab were removed.
    • He now has green irises.
    • His filler cap has been removed.
    • All of his rivets added in the twenty-third-twenty-fourth season of the original series have been removed with new ones added on the front of his smokebox.
    • His smokebox now has a dark green tint.
    • His leaf spring has been removed.
    • His brake pipe has been removed.
    • His lamp irons have been removed.
    • His siderods have been removed.
    • His saddle tanks and cab are now meshed together.
    • He now has three boiler bands rather than four.

  • As revealed in the first season episode, Dragon Run, Percy's full name is Percival, which is something never mentioned in the original series. This makes him the first and currently only Steam Team member from the original series to have a full name.
  • Whenever Percy's lucky bell is brought up, Percy's vector would switch for a version with a bracket mounted on his coal bunker that connects his lucky bell to his body.
  • Percy has two different pitches of his whistle and can change them accordingly, making him the only character in the series thus far to do so.
