— Thomas and Percy

Percy's Lucky Bell is the ninth episode of the first season.

Plot[]

Thomas is at the big station when Percy arrives and the two play a short game of catch with Thomas' cargo. Thomas notices that Percy is wearing his lucky bell and the little green engine explains that he had a scary delivery to the top of Cannonball Curve, so he brought his lucky bell, which always gives him a boost of courage. Thomas then tells Percy that he is to drop off his flatbed of wood to the Old Mines. Frightened, Percy warns Thomas that the mine is dark, scary, and might even be bottomless. Thomas is not scared at first, until Gordon arrives back from the Old Mines looking like a 'train wreck'. Thomas nervously asks Percy if he can borrow his lucky bell, which Percy begrudgingly says yes to, but only after Thomas promises to look after it extra carefully.

Thomas makes his way to the Old Mines. Despite all the bumps, bends, twists and turns, Thomas luckily manages to find his way to the platform where the wood is needed. On the way out of the mines, Thomas is feeling so confident and so happy about the lucky bell that he starts to sing about him feeling lucky and how lucky Percy is his friend. Unfortunately, Thomas does not pay attention to what he is doing and the bell falls down into the seemingly bottomless mine below. Thomas is most upset, but understands that he has to tell Percy the truth. Without the bell, Thomas gets covered in mud, derails right into a cactus, and gets a tumbleweed stuck in his undercarriage. Arriving back at the yard, he tells Carly and Sandy what happened. Sandy heads into the workshop and fishes out a new bell, but Thomas is not sure that it is lucky or not.

Just then, Percy arrives and asks Thomas what happened. Thomas tells Percy that he lost the bell, but he at least got him a new bell. But Percy is upset, saying it is not the same, as a water tower accidentally splashing water all over him proves. Thomas vows to find Percy's lucky bell in the mines. Carly and Sandy also offer to help. Soon, all four friends arrive at the mines and Thomas leads the way, acting as the ‘lucky bell’ for the group. They manage to not only prove that the mines are in fact not bottomless at all, but also find the bell. Working together, Thomas, Carly, and Sandy manage to get Percy's lucky bell back to him. Percy apologizes to Thomas for not believing he can do it and Thomas apologizes for not keeping his ‘Thomas Promise’, saying he will from now on. And so the four friends happily head back home with a ring of a lucky bell.

A fun, upbeat song that starts off slow because Thomas is sad, but soon his pout turns into a happy smile.
