Sir Topham Hatt is a jolly gentleman. However, he tends to worry a lot about deliveries and his engines, but is always happy when they make their deliveries safely. Sir Topham Hatt also enjoys organizing events across the island, such as festivals and parties.
Attire
Sir Topham Hatt usually wears a white shirt with a black tie under a yellow waistcoat, and over that, he wears a black tailcoat. He also wears grey trousers and white and black dress shoes. On his head, he wears a black top hat, the same one which has been passed on down to all the railway controllers that came before him.
Since his last appearance in Thomas & Friends, Sir Topham Hatt has gained notable changes in his design:
He no longer has irises.
The brim of his hat is slightly thicker.
The crown part of his top hat is taller.
The seven buttons on his waistcoat have been reduced to three.
His shoes now only have a singular button on each side.
His besom pockets from his tailcoat have been removed.
Sir Topham Hatt is the only human character intended to interact with the engines as opposed to the original series, where various humans would interact with the engines quite often.
Sir Topham Hatt's British accent was not part of the original plans for All Engines Go.
Unlike the original series which had the same Sir Topham Hatt from beginning to end, All Engines Go establishes that the title is generational, much like it was in The Railway Series.
Instead of simply being called "sir", Sir Topham Hatt is referred to by his full name in All Engines Go. However, Sir Topham Hatt gets referred to as just "sir" by Winston.
Additionally, he is not referred as "The Fat Controller" in the UK dub, as the nickname is considered rude, unlike in the original series, excluding the Castilian Spanish dub.
Alongside running the railway, Sir Topham Hatt is also in charge of organizing special events on the Island of Sodor.
