- "Boy, have I missed you, Perce!"
"But Thomas, I just left a little bit ago."
"What?! It feels like you've been gone forever! What's interesting in the outside world?" - — Thomas and Percy
The Paint Problem is the thirty-fourth episode of the first season.
Plot[]
Percy is carrying his mail, as well as a lightbulb for the Vicarstown Lighthouse. Thomas then rushes past him, excited about tonight's meteor shower. He and Percy want to finish as soon as possible to see it, so Percy asks Thomas to deliver his lightbulb. Thomas couples up to the bulb and rushes away. Percy tries to warn him not to go through Crumble Canyon, but Thomas doesn't listen.
Thomas soon delivers the lightbulb, then he spots Bulstrode out at sea, who is carrying the telescope. He rushes off, causing Carly to nearly drop the lightbulb. On his way to the Docks, Thomas goes through Crumble Canyon, but lots of rocks fall onto him. He soon makes it to the Docks where the rest of his friends are waiting. The engines all gasp when they see Thomas; his paintwork is badly scratched! Then Gordon sees Thomas too, and orders him to return to the sheds immediately, so he can be repainted.
At the Sheds, Sandy resprays Thomas, and Thomas rushes off, but Sandy quickly stops him, and sternly tells Thomas that he has to wait for his paint to dry. So she brings him back to his berth, and tells him to stay there. Thomas soon begins to feel very bored, but Percy soon comes back, and decides to entertain his best friend. While entertaining Thomas, Percy jumps up very high, resulting in him landing on top of Thomas! Now Thomas' paint is ruined again, and Percy is scratched up too. Sandy comes back to respray them both, and gives them fans to help their paint dry a bit more quickly. Thomas is still impatient, so he has an idea; if the fans can dry him faster, maybe the wind might, but while he's racing, Kana rushes past him, and his wet paint is messed up again. While backing up so no one would notice, he bumps into Gordon, and accidentally gets wet paint onto his wheel. Sandy comes back and resprays Thomas again, then she cleans Gordon's wheel. However, Percy's paint is now dry, so he can go, but Thomas still has to wait.
Later, Nia, Kana and Diesel arrive with the telescope, and Thomas becomes excited. But he almost crashes into Diesel, and while trying to avoid him, he messes up his paint, again. So Sandy comes back again, and resprays him again, but she tells Thomas he'll miss the meteor shower. That night, Gordon is surprised to still see Thomas, but he thinks Thomas has learned his lesson, and as a surprise, he brings him the telescope! As because it's a clear night, his friends won't need it. Thomas looks into the telescope and sees his friends on Lookout Mountain, and he is happy he got to see the meteor shower after all.
